I welcome doulas; doulas can provide an extra layer of care, emotionally and physically, for the laboring mother, and can be a great addition to a birth team. I personally have been a doula for more than 21 years. I feel that their work is so crucial to the birthing process. With that said your husband can be your doula if he chooses. But if you want a guild that has been down that trail before to focus solely on you, I encourage you to get one.

Also one of my assistants has been a doula and loves the work and can step into that role as long as she is not needed by me.
